Is there a list about the departments which will make it into Buildstation ?
Since I'm updating the spriting database we need to think about how many and how differently the departments will be in order to choose their area of operation and with that the colors for all of the different department sprites.

No. Departments will be dependent on the corporation. What departments would you like to see?

Like i said, It would be better to have recolourable overlays for that, so that people can redesign their station as desired.

Haven't thought about the departments yet.
So, to get it right, that means that almost everything needs to have an overlay for the color like walls, floors, clothing, department stuff, pda's, HUD's, belts,
backpacks,... only to mention a small part ?!

Hmm... yeah. For the most part. Its honestly better than having 4 sprotes for each variation/recolour. And lets people customize themselves more. Im planning on adding in a futureistic loom even, so peeps can make their own clothes.
