Alright, So it looks like its been decided. We're gunna go with the standalone. If anyone feels like dropping out of the project at this point, let us know.
Now, I don't expect all of you, or even any of you, to look at this as a "full time thing" You still have the choice of dropping out in the future, and you dont need to be totally and completely dedicated to this, for the hobbyists.
A little about my FIRST project, well not the first, But the one that lead me to ss13.
- It was intended to be 3D first person.
- It was intended to be single player.
- It was intended to be event driven, with a heavily branching storyline.
- It was intended to be extremely in depth, with tons of research, and construction. Not as a primary focus, but as a well fleshed out system, that made the game all that more fun.
Now, With the standalone we will be making, Only one of those apply, and even then, its only a half truth.
A lot of the basic idea's for the project will need some suggestions, and there will be discussions and debates and who-what going on. This is all part of the process.
With this, I will actually be ADDING onto the features originally planned. The originally planned features were honestly a balance between what could be implemented in ss13, and what i wanted to implement. We will go closer to the "What we want to have implemented", Whether its possible, or not.
The standalone will be 2D. Most, if not all of us, are not experienced in 3D modelling, texturing, etc. And its a big step to take, and a lot of effort, and processor intensive, etc. If we stick to 2D, it will be closer to our comfort zones, And we'll be able to focus a lot more on the actual features, rather than trying to balance the 3D and graphics against the CPU intensive features.
Most of the features already talked about, will be implemented, I can't currently think of anything off the top of my head that wouldnt be, but there's probably one somewhere in there.
