So, I realize I've been spreading the news about new features and development pretty thin over everything from replies to peoples character bios, to comments on reddit, Without ever actually updating the news or official features. So This is it. Since a lot of this codebase is based off of baycode concepts, and baycode is so named for bay12, etc. I think i'm going to go with the bay12 approach for features and devlog. That And i suk at formatting and creatvity anyways. haha...
First, features. I'm going to say some of the more obvious stuff here as well, in case we ever have any visitors who are not already familiar with what spacestation 13 is:
Summary of Features:
- Buildstation is a game/codebranch built on the byond platform based off of spacestation 13, A game set in space, where each player has their own role on the station, whether it be research in science, repairs and maintenance in engineering, blowing the station up as a traitor, or even just cleaning the mess up at the end of the day as a janitor.
- In the buildstation codebase, You are set in a fully destructible, reconstructible world out in space, working for one of the many megacorporations in existance, or just making by on your own.
- Buildstation is set aside from most of ss13 in that instead of the world being reset at the end of the round, It persists, and the chaos and anarchy just keeps getting worse, and worse, and worse.
- In buildstation, you are able to manufacture anything you can imagine using the prototype assembly system. It implements modular code and objects so that you an design and create unique new creations from whatever you can imagine.
- Traditional to ss13, you would be working in the year 2558, for Nanotrassen, (or the Syndicate, as a traitor.), on their 'safest' spacestation yet, spacestation 13. Here on buildstation, a huge part of the uniqueness derives from the fact that you do NOT work for the megacorporation known as nanotrasen, but rather for a player-designed corporation or other faction, with their own rules and regulations and goals. You will also find that you have to build and expand on the spacestation itself, as well.
- Buildstation will be having a heavily overhauled genetics system, allowing for the creation of new creatures and plants using dna blocks.
- On ss13, it was traditionally a permadeath atmosphere, when you died, you stayed dead, at least, in most circustances, and it prevented you from joining in for the remainder of the round. Since buildstation rounds do not reset, ir uses a respawn system that fits in the lore, where you suffer some time delay in cloning and in transit, before you can return to the action.
- Since most of ss13 was not intended to be drawn on for extended periods of time, many constructional elements were not implemented, such as airlocks, and most equipment. Just the stuff you needed to get by, like walls and doors. Buildstation seeks to remedy that, making everything destructible, and of course, reconstructible as well.
- Buildstation has expanded on the chemistry system previously set in place on ss13, to allow for more, more interesting, reactions and chemicals with a massive variety of uses.
- Though most of the lore in buildstation is set in the same universe as ss13, several lore changes/additions are evident, Such as the collapse of Nanotrasen, Set approximately 20 years later than ss13. Among others.
(If i missed something here let me know!)
